* BIG FUN SHOOTING VIDEO OF NORTHWEST ILLINOIS AUCTION YESTERAY *
I just got back home a bit ago from my 4 day soujourn across 5 states covering 3 big farm machinery auctions. Today (Dec. 19th)I found myself just south of Walnut, IL for a sale by auctioneer Darrel Dahl. The was a retirement auction for farmer Bill Wessel. Nice folks the Wessels. I had the opportunity to meet Bill and some of his family members before and after the sale today. The equipment? Stuff sold pretty darn well I'd say. Here are a few prices to chew on:

  • 2009 JD 1770 NT 12R-30 planter, done 650 acres: $69,000
  • 2000 JD 9550 combine with 1750 engine hours: $90,000
  • 2002 JD 920F platform: $15,500
  • 2003 JD 693 6-row corn head: $19,800
  • 2008 JD 8130 MFWD tractor with 575 hours: $121,000

I shot some great video of the sale today and will try to get the video highlights posted here on the web site this weekend. I also have great video footage to post from the auction I shot Thursday in southwest Kansas. Check back for those goodies.

** DENVER, IOWA: "THE CLEANEST LITTLE TOWN IN IOWA" **
On my drive home from Illinois this afternoon I stopped to gas up in the small farming town of Denver, Iowa. Denver is just north of Waterloo a bit. As soon as the fuel began to flow I heard, "Machinery Pete, is that you?" It was a new friend, Romaine Schweer. Romaine has been reading my "Machinery Pete" yakkings for a while now :-) He told me about his JD 4020 high crop tractor. Next time I'm down through Denver, IA I'm going to try to arrange to drop by and visit Romaine to shoot some video of his 4020 high crop. Oh, thanks again for reading Romaine!!

*** ANOTHER JD 4020 STORY FROM TODAY ***
After the auction today Jeff from southeast Iowa came up to show me a cool pic of his collection of 1971 JD 20 Series tractors. Included in the beauties was a sweet low hour 4020 he bought some years ago for around $22K. Jeff said he always felt like he paid too much for it.....don't worry Jeff, that low hour 4020 is probably worth even more $$ today.
