WE'RE GETTING MORE AUCTION PRICE DATA FROM SOUTHEAST U.S.
21 years now I've been compiling auction sale price data on all types of farm & construction equipment. I've ALWAYS been very, very interested over these 2-plus decades to see how similar used equipment sells in different parts of the country (and Canada). This past year we've begun to receive much, much more auction sale price data from auctions throughout the southeastern U.S. Good stuff. I love to skim through this data as it pours in.....did that TRACTOR sell high or low? What about that FIELD CULTIVATOR? Yesterday (September 4, 2010) a nice farm auction in southeast Virigina was held. Auctioneer was E.B. Harris Inc., one of the biggest auction firms in Virginia / North Carolina. On this farm auction yesterday was a NH 570 square baler, a very nice one. It sold for $12,500. You can see a picture of this NH 570 on our "Machinery Pete Facebook page". So how does that $12,500 sale price compare to other NH 570 balers I've seen sold? Let's take a look:

  • $5,200: 2000 model, good, sold 2/28/09 on auction in SW Oklahoma
  • $11,200: excellent, sold 9/3/09 on auction in east-central Illinois
  • $11,750: 2007 model, good, sold 10/1/09 on auction in east-central Indiana
  • $12,000: good, sold 8/20/09 on auction in southwest Wisconsin
  • $12,400: good, sold 9/4/10 on auction in southeast Virgina
  • $7,000: 1991 model, good, sold 1/17/08 on auction in south-central Kansas
  • $13,500: 1998 model, good, sold 3/27/08 on auction in west-central Minnesota

So $12,400 for the NH 570 baler sold on yesterday's auction in southeast Virginia stacks up very well indeed it appears. In fact, looking 13 years back into our "auction results" database in our web site, I find that $12,400 is the 2nd highest auction sale price I've seen on a NH 570 baler. You can see the highest price listed above.....$13,500 for the 1998 model NH 570 baler sold 3/27/08 on an auction in west-central Minnesota. Hmm, 3/27/08......that was right about the absolute height of the rush on used farm equipment values, early months of 2008, so that doesn't surprise me we'd find the all-time high auction sale price coming from that time period.

Do you see how access to this detailed sale price data history can pay dividends when it comes time to buy / sell / trade / appraise used equipment?? Good information you can TRUST will help keep more $$ in your pocket....where it belongs.

ALWAYS FUN TO WATCH FARMALL CUB TRACTORS SELL AT AUCTION
Below is a video clip I shot on the August 24th farm auction down near Hannibal, MO. The video clip is of the 1948 Farmall Cub tractor selling. I've dropped in some "Machinery Pete commentary" blips along the way throughout the video....info on Farmall Cub tractors, etc.

JD 8300 TRACTOR VALUES: EYE OPENING FIGURES
Wow, check out the data below, info I just punched up in our "Calculator" pricing tool in our web site:

    JD 8300 Tractor Values:

  • Ave. auction price 2010: $70,480
  • Ave. auction price 2009: $65,000
  • Ave. auction price 2008: $58,865
  • Ave. auction price 2007: $61,905
  • Ave. auction price 2006: $60,138
  • Ave. auction price 2005: $60,761
  • Ave. auction price 2004: $57,213
  • Ave. auction price 2003: $57,786
  • Ave. auction price 2002: $57,138
  • Ave. auction price 2001: $61,182
  • Ave. auction price 2000: $62,143
    ------------------------------------
  • Ave. dealer advertised price 2010: $70,900
  • Ave. dealer advertised price 2009: $65,929
  • Ave. dealer advertised price 2008: $67,558
  • Ave. dealer advertised price 2007: $69,443
  • Ave. dealer advertised price 2006: $69,638
  • Ave. dealer advertised price 2005: $69,006

So, what do these FACTS tell me? Quite a lot. First, look at how the AVE. AUCTION PRICE so far this year in 2010 has GONE UP (8.4%) vs. last year's average price.......UP EVEN FURTHER (19.7%) vs. average auction price from 2 years ago.

    Double WOW.

Deere made 8300 model tractors from the mid to late 1990's. Now look at what they were selling for on average auction back 10 years ago, in the calendar year 2000....$62,143......vs. $70,480 now. Do you suppose this SPIKE in value this year and over the last 2 years on JD 8300 tractors has anything to do with the looming TIER IV mandates??

Another eye opener is this data for me is the comparison between the AVE. AUCTION PRICE and the AVE. DEALER ADVERTISED PRICE the last 2 years. Look at those figures folks......NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL!! That is really amazing. Nice JD 8300's are selling for same $$ at auction as dealers are ASKING FOR THEM on the lot..........given these figures, do you see once again how utterly VITAL it is to have this fresh, current sale price data at your fingertips whenever you're looking to buy / sell/ trade / appraise any piece of used equipment?

Information (especially GOOD INFORMATION) is power.
