IHC 720 3pt on-land 7-18 plow sold for $7,250 on north-central Indiana farm sale Saturday - 1/5/2010

12" OF SNOW CAN'T STOP "RED HOT" INDIANA SALE SATURDAY
I just got off the phone with auctioneer Daryl Ball of Ball Auction & Realty in north-central Indiana. Daryl had quite a farm sale Saturday (Jan. 2nd). Over one foot (yes one foot!) of snow fell on sale day but that didn't deter over 800 folks and 563 registered bidders from braving the conditions to make the sale. And a great sale it was. How great? How about an IHC 720 7-18 plow sold for $7,250? Not too shabby! Daryl said the buyer was from Wisconsin...no short poke from northern Indiana. But that wasn't the LONG DISTANCE buy of the day. That honor belonged to the NEW YORK bidder who bought the 2004 Unverferth 7200 grain cart for $21,250. Here are a few more prices from this 1/2/10 sale in north-central Indiana:

  • 1994 CaseIH 1666 4WD combine with 2364 hours (no specialty rotor): $44,500
  • 1991 CaseIH 1660 4WD combine with 2052 hours (no specialty rotor): $36,500
  • 2002 CaseIH 2206 6-row corn head: $20,000
  • 2001 CaseIH 2206 6-row corn head: $19,000
  • Unverferth HT-25 header trailer: $2,300
  • Unverferth HT-12 header trailer: $2,000
  • 2004 GSI 1110 grain dryer, 240 bu. capacity: $17,500
  • 2004 CaseIH MX255 MFWD tractor with 300 hours: $116,500
  • 2005 CaseIH MXM 120 MFWD tractor with 832 hours & #172 loader: $54,000
  • 1949 Farmall H tractor: $3,750
  • Ford 8N tractor with turf tires: $1,800
  • JD 400 30' front fold rotary hoe: $6,000
  • 2005 Sunflower 1434 disk, 23', 9" spacings: $24,000
  • 2002 Unverferth 24' rolling harrow II: $8,000

ROTARY HOES & GRAIN TRAILERS - 2 OF HOTTEST ITEMS ON USED MARKET
ROTARY HOES ARE HOT!! Did you notice the JD 400 30-foot sold for $6,000 on the Jan. 2nd sale from north-central Indiana I listed above? Think $6,000 is high? It is, but not nearly the highest sale price I've seen of on JD 400 rotary hoes. On a farm auction 12/5/09 in south-central Minnesota a JD 400 30' front-fold rotary hoe sold for $6,250 (you can see video highlights of that sale in our "Machinery Pete Video" section). On a sale in west-central Illinois on 12/14/09 a 1985 model JD 400 30' front fold rotary hoe sold for $6,600. On a north-central Ohio sale 11/28/09 a JD 400 30' front fold went for $4,000. But the show stopper?..........on a farm auction 12/11/09 in north-central Indiana (by Daryl Ball with Ball Auction & Realty), a JD 400 30' front-fold hoe in "Like New" condition that had done less than 1,000 acres sold for......$10,000

I told you ROTARY HOES are hot.

The other HOT item is GRAIN TRAILERS. Check out the pair of Timpte 40' aluminum grain trailers Daryl Ball sold on his last 2 farm auctions in north-central Indiana:

  • $31,000: 1994 Timpte 40' aluminum hopper bottom, 22K 1-owner miles (sold 12/11/09)
  • $21,500: 1996 Timpte 40' aluminum hopper bottom (sold 1/2/10)

Those grain trailers are 14-16 years sold yet still bringing that kind of $$. Pretty amazing.

    * SEEING ALL THE PRICES ON ALL MACHINERY SOLD ON THE AUCTION *
A few months back we added some new functionality to our Machinerypete.com web site. A new wrinkle that allows subscribers when they are in the "auction results" section to click on any item they see and up pops a new screen showing ALL THE OTHER ITEMS ON THAT SALE & WHAT EACH ONE SOLD FOR. Pretty cool feature I think. Now you can quickly tell....."did everything sell high on that auction?".....did just the tillage items sell soft?......what did all the heads bring?. One click and all that info is at your fingertips.

MACHINERY PETE TO SPEAK AT AG CONNECT EXPO IN ORLANDO NEXT WEDNESDAY
Anyone else tired of this C-O-L-D weather already? Me too. So join me in Orlando, FL next week at the 2010 Ag Connect Expo. I will be speaking Jan. 13th from 1:30-2:30 pm in the "Innovations Theater". I'll touch on the current state of used farm equipment values, what we saw in 2009 and what we may likely see in 2010. I love getting out to farm shows like this to meet & visit with folks. Hope to see you in Orlando next week! Here's a link to Ag Connect Expo's web site: http://www.agconnect.com

** NEW VIDEO POSTED: HIGHLIGHTS FROM NORTHEAST MISSOURI AUCTION **
Check on the "Machinery Pete Video" on our homepage, just posted a new video featuring highlights from a recent farm auction in chilly northeast Missouri. My good friend Dan Sullivan with Sullivan Auctioneers provided the video.....watch a sweet 1984 IHC 5288 tractor sell for the highest price I've seen in the last 5+ years!

NEW TIER 4 ENGINES COMING IN 2011.....AFFECT ON USED TRACTOR VALUES?
I am NO engineering expert, that much I'm certain of. What I'm not certain of is what (if any) effect the coming of the new "Tier 4" engines will have throughout 2010 on the used TRACTOR & COMBINE markets? Will equipment mfg's ramp up production of existing models to beat the cut-off in 2011? What will happen with the price of new tractors & combines? Up? By how much? How will the end buyer (farmers) react to the coming changes in new models? I think 2010 needs to be and will be an EDUCATING YEAR from all sides, education from Mfg. to dealer, education from dealer to farmer. Stay tuned.
