* PRICES FROM SOUTH-CENTRAL MICHIGAN AUCTION TODAY *
Some very good prices just in tonight (Jan. 21st) from a farm auction today in south-central Michigan. Our man at the sale reported a nice crowd and a nice looking line of equipment. Here are a few sale price highlights:

  • 1979 JD 4840 tractor with 4400 hours, good: $24,000
  • 1974 MF 1085 tractor with 3327 hours, good: $7,200
  • JD 3020 tractor, diesel, good: $7,300
  • 1977 JD 6600 combine, gear drive, good: $3,600
  • JD 643 corn head, low tin, clean: $6,200
  • JD 218 flex grain head, clean: $4,700
  • 1984 Ford C700 grain truck, 16' box & hoist, 54" sides, good: $6,400
  • JD 7000 6R-30 planter, good: $6,100
  • CaseIH 5100 grain drill, 21 hole, grass seed, good: $4,800
  • 1996 Krause 3951 WR 21-foot disk: $14,000
  • Brillion 16' cultipacker, good: $4,500
  • Century 500 gal. sprayer with 45' hyd. folding booms, good: $5,100
  • Farm Fans AB 12B grain dryer, 180 bu., good: $5,000
  • 2006 Brock 10,500 bu. grain bin, 30'x7 ring, good: $10,600
  • 16.9-38 duals, good: $325

So what do I make of these sale price figures? Well, makes me think if I had a 6-row planter to sell I'd look into advertising it for sale in Michigan. $6,100 for the JD 7000 6R-30 planter......I've been noticing for 2-3 years now that 6-row planters just plain sell for $$ on Michigan auctions....Ohio auctions too. If you are ever wanting to specifically advertise equipment for sale in the state of Michigan, their weekly ag paper is called the "Farmers Advance", a very good paper. Their web site is, www.farmersadvance.com . Of course you should by all means also advertise your used equipment for sale here at Machinerypete.com in our FREE "Classifieds" section. We just added this recently.....our way of trying to help expose equipment you have for sale over a MUCH WIDER area, to more & more eyeballs. Just click on "Classifieds" in our menu and have at it. You can even upload a couple of pics of your items for sale.

USED TIRE PRICES.... DO YOU COVER THOSE PETE?
Yep, we sure do. In our "MISCELLANEOUS" category. Very easy to used. Just click on "auction results", then MISCELLANEOUS, then you can click on FIRESTONE or GOODYEAR, etc. We also get a ton of tires reported to us sold at auction without a particular brand name. So in this case we just list them under "N/A". Both yesterday and today (Jan. 21st) I got sale price reports with a pair of 16.9 tires in "Good" condition. Here's the scoop:

  • $325: 16.9-38 duals, good condition, sold 1/21/10 sale in south-central Michigan
  • $600: 16.9-34 duals & hubs, good condition, sold 1/20/10 sale in east-central Nebraska

INTERESTING QUESTIONED EMAILED TO PETE TODAY - CHECK IT OUT
Here's a question I took via email today, kind of stumped me. Anyone out there have any ideas??

"Hi Pete, I'm looking for any information you might have on a automated row bucker. We use siphons to irrigate and we create turn rows. For the most part creating these turn rows is requiring two guys. I would like to get it down to just a driver and have the row bucker automatically trip the bucket when creating the turn rows if at all possible. Is there a piece of equipment that you know of? Or a kit that might be applied to an existing row bucker to automatically trip the bucket?? Any information would be greatly appreciated. This year we are trying to implement some cost savings and this is one of the ideas to help re-engineer the costs.

The emailer went to explain further what he's after: "was hoping that someone might have experimented (or have info) with a guide wheel (or any other mechanism) that trips the bucket as it rides up/down along the furrows to create these turn rows. Anything you can do to help I really appreciate."

If you have any suggestions, shoot me back an email and I can forward on to our guy.

CASEIH 496 25-FOOT DISK SOLD FOR $14,500 ON NEBRASKA SALE YESTERDAY
I wrote my weekly online column for www.Agriculture.com this morning and featured a couple sale prices from an auction yesterday (Jan. 20th) in east-central Nebraska by my friends at Stock Auction Company. One item that really caught my eye was the nice CaseIH 496 25' disk sold for $14,500. A quick peek in our "auction results" database found (371) auction sale prices on 496 disks. $14,500 on the Nebraska sale yesterday is the 4th highest sale price I've seen....going back 14 years.
