NEW VIDEO POSTED: GRAIN CARTS - HOT ITEMS ON USED MARKET Check out the new video just posted (click on "Machinery Pete" link above). It shows video highlights of (10) nice grain carts sold on machinery auctions I shot in last few months. Six states. Big carts, small carts. New & old. One thing in common though....strong sale price on all nice used GRAIN CARTS here the last year to two. Check out the end of the video...see (47) record high auction sale prices on various Makes & Models of GRAIN CARTS. Notice how many listed are older GRAIN CARTS that have been around a while....still, the nice ones bring good $$. 1960 JD 530 TRACTOR (RESTORED) SOLD FOR $22,000 ON BARRETT-JACKSON SALE TODAY It was a beauty, professionally restored by a long-time Deere dealer from Nebraska. Shining like a new dime. It sold for $20,000 + the $2,000 (10%) buyer's commission. The auction was Barrett-Jackson's big week-long televised sale down in Scottsdale, AZ. $22,000 is the HIGHEST auction sale price I've run across on a JD 530. Back on 9/1/03 on a collector auction in northeast Indiana (Polk Auction), an "all fuel" JD 530 sold for $21,000. That was the HIGH sale price until today. SALE PRICES FROM 1/9/10 AUCTION IN EAST-CENTRAL NEBRASKA My friend auctioneer Dick Mundt sent me a great sale price report from their January 9, 2010 farm auction. Equipment was in "rough" shape generally speaking Dick said. It's those type of insightful comments that really help make our sale price data as useful as it can for folks I think. Not all used equipment out there is shiny, is? Nope. Lot of it has seen its better days. But still........."what did it sell for?". Doesn't matter to me, shiny or rusty, new or old.....I just want to compile as much sale price data as possible. Here are a few prices from this auction: Bobcat (we list under "MELROE) 853 skid steer: $11,300 IHC 666 diesel tractor: $5,400 IHC 480 disk, 21': $2,000 Rhino 8' blade, welded up: $200 Rhino 184 shredder, 7': $2,500 Strobel 12' box scraper: $3,200 1992 Flying L GN livestock trailer, 7'x24', rough: $2,250 1997 WW bumper livestock trailer, 7'x16', good: $2,200 Cub Cadet 382 hydro lawn mower, hydro out: $250**20 YEAR-OLD COMBINES: THEN & NOW ** It's been 20 years now I've been at this biz of compiling auction sale price data. I started back in November 1989. What do I remember about November 1989? I remember if you'd have asked me (or anyone else in agriculture) at the time what 20-year old used combines were worth, so harvesters from the late 1960's........we ALL would have agreed, not much. Now ask that same question today......"what do you think 20-year used combines are worth? Today they're worth something, often times quite a lot.....like the 1987 CaseIH 1660 with 2416 engine hours sold for $40,000 back in 12/08 on a sale in west-central Indiana. Check out these stats from our "Calculator" pricing tool in our web site: CaseIH 1660 Combine Values
Ave. auction price 2009: $18,194 Ave. auction price 2008: $22,162 Ave. dealer advertised price 2009: $27,461I guess a 20-year old combine is indeed worth something today. Now look ahead 10, 20 years...........do you see this changing? I don't. The rising price of new combines almost dictates the continued & increased interest in and real demand good quality condition used combines 20 years or more. I just wonder............in 20 years, what will a nice CaseIH 1660 or JD 9500 combine (then 40 years old) be worth?? ANOTHER BODY BLOW FOR TRUE VIKINGS FANS I blogged earlier this past week about how I've been a lifelong Minnesota Vikings fan. Ever since I learned to walk & talk. Those 4 Super Bowls losses back in my pre-teen years were crushers and we've had more heartbreak along the way since then ('87, '98, '00). So today's OT loss to the Saints with the Super Bowl on the line was tough. My lucky purple shirt just wasn't enough. But I'm ok with the loss. It helped a great deal having my wife & oldest daughter watching the game with me. They don't watch much of any sports on TV, so they weren't dealing with the emotional weight of 40 years of coming up short like I was. But, you know, what can you do? As I fan, am I going to just quit watching my team? No, I'll keep watching & rooting for the purple. Maybe one of these years we'll finish No. 1. Cubbie fans, you know where I'm coming from? Thought so. I'm not trying to get all esoterical about coming up short....again....in such a heartbreaking fashion.....again. I just think, you know, there's a LOT of crummy stuff in the world going on out there. I'm thankful for so many things.....family, health, friends, for the cool opportunity I've had these 20 years to build this business, for all the great folks I've met through the auction sale price data we compile. I'm not going to let one more Vikings setback throw me for a loop. There's always NEXT year :-) CLICK ON LINK BELOW FOR MORE OF PETE'S BLOG
