REPORT FROM SOUTH-CENTRAL ILLINOIS FARM AUCTION SATURDAY I just got an email from auctioneer Jamie Scherrer with a report on the nice farm auction he had on Saturday (January 30th) near Benton, IL (south-central Illinois). What caught my eye about this auction was the 2003 Gleaner R75 combine with 2274 engine hours and also the pair of late-model Gleaner heads. Check out a few sale price highlights from this auction below: 2003 Gleaner R75 combine with 2274 engine hours: $85,000 2003 Gleaner 3000 8R-30 corn head, complete rebuild '06: $19,500 2005 Gleaner 8000 25' flex platform: $11,000 AC 7580 4WD tractor, duals: $10,500 AC 7580 4WD tractor, single tires: $11,000 AC 7045 tractor: $7,000 Kilbros 1400 grain cart: $14,000 CaseIH 496 disk, 28': $6,750 IHC 490 disk, 25', 9" spacing: $3,250 Kinze 2600 16/31 planter, new disk openers/no till blades/bushings 1200 acres ago: $34,000FOR SALE: JD 2520 DIESEL, POWER SHIFT TRACTOR I just talked this morning (Feb. 1st) with Trent, a farmer in North Carolina and new subscriber to our Machinerypete.com web site, who has a rare JD 2520 diesel power shift tractor for sale. It has WF, dual hydraulics and is in good overall condition. It could use a new paint job. For more info, contact Trent at 704-878-9266. HEADING TO DES MOINES TODAY TO RECORD AUDIO FOR "MACHINERY SHOW" I'm off to Des Moines, Iowa today (Feb. 1st) for a quick trip down to record another (3) audio voiceovers for my "Machinery Pete" segments on the "Machinery Show" on RFD-TV. I've worked up fun segments on Ford 8N Tractors, large square balers and one on 10-20 year old 4WD Tractors and how they've been a "hot" item on the used market the last few years. You can catch the "Machinery Show" on RFD-TV on Thursday night at 8 PM CST and again on Sunday at 9 PM CST. CONSIGNMENT AUCTIONS: "NO SALE" ITEMS In my 20 years of tracking auction sale prices on farm & construction equipment, I've always worked hard to bring forward what I feel is trustworthy sale price info. What do I mean by that? Well, even 20 years ago when I was just starting out and was a young greenhorn kid in his early 20's, I knew my task was to compile AS MUCH DATA as possible, but just as important....TO COMPILE GOOD DATA. I knew I could go stand at any consignment auction and scribble down sale prices until I was blue in the face....but unless I knew what items were really being let go and which items were protected, that data wasn't worth much. So I've always tended toward farm retirement or estate auctions where everything was let go, no reserve prices, etc. But I still wanted to gather data from consignment and dealer auctions, so what I had to do was get to know the auctioneers as best I could, work with them, help them promote their sales and in turn on consignment sales they did have to work with them to get the inside scoop, what items were sold, which ones weren't, what was the "NO SALE PRICE", what did the seller want for it, etc. A lot of work, but I feel good about the quality of the data we present. For example, Saturday (Jan. 30th) my auctioneer friend Buck Reeves had a consignment auction in west-central Illinois. Good sale. Buck relayed to me what a few of the items "NO SALED" at, let me know how much the seller wanted. Very good info I think. Here's a few highlights from Buck's consignment sale Saturday: 2007 JD 5425 MFWD tractor with 542 loader, 180 hours: NO SALE at $32,500 - wanted $37K 2005 Bobcat T250 skid steer with 1400 hours, rubber tracks: $19,800 2001 JD 6400 MFWD tractor with 5000 hours, cab: NO SALE AT $26,250 - wanted $28K MF 1260 MFWD tractor, ROPS, 870 hours, #1246 loader: $10,100 AC 200 tractor, rough: $3,000 Great Plains 24' no-till drill: $10,000 Hardi 800 gal. sprayer, 60' booms: $4,500 1997 Ford Louisville tandem truck 16' Rogers rock bed: $19,000NEW VIDEO COMING: "PETE: IS A CASEIH 7140 WITH 3500 HOURS WORTH $50K?" When I get back from my quick trip down to Iowa today, I'll be working on a new "Machinery Pete" video to post, a fun "Ask Machinery Pete" segment featuring an email I got this weekend asking me......"Pete, I have an opportunity to buy a real nice CaseIH 7140 MFWD tractor with 3,500 hours. Do you think it's worth $50,000?". Check back for the video and my reply. CLICK ON LINK BELOW FOR MORE OF PETE'S BLOG
