MONDAY: PETE ROLLS PICKUP - GOES HOME TYPES IN PRICES Ok, my week is off to an interesting start. Got up real early today (Feb. 8th), packed up and pointed the pickup south, making my way down to Las Cruces, New Mexico to drop in on a week-long machinery auction by auctioneer Charlie Dickerson just north of the Mexican border. So my plan was to make it down to Wichita, KS and then fly out of Wichita Tuesday morning to El Paso, TX then make the 50 minute drive over to Las Cruces in time to shoot some video of the big sale Tuesday afternoon. It was a very good plan. Until I hit that patch of ice on I-90 just east of Albert Lea, MN about 8:30 this morning. My pickup swerved off the highway into the median and rolled over. Never been upside down in a vehicle before. Don't want to ever again. Fortunately, I'm no worse for wear. My wife was more shaken up than me I think when I called to tell her of my mishap. It's ok honey, I'm a tough old bird. Anyway, my travel plans are currently being adjusted. I'm still going to try and make it down to Charlie's sale, maybe just a day late. Will still try to figure out a way I can catch Mark & Ron Stock's farm auction in south-central Kansas on Thursday (Feb. 11th) and then Eddie Pickett's small but very nice farm auction on Friday (Feb. 12th) in northwest Missouri. What's NOT helping my travel planning is this darn winter storm hammering central & southern Minnesota this afternoon & tonight. I just called Charlie down in New Mexico to check in. Charlie had 2 bits of advice for Machinery Pete: 1. Keep the "dirty side down" when it comes to the pickup 2. Move to New Mexico where it tends NOT to snow 20 feet every winter. INSTEAD OF DRIVING I TYPED IN SALE PRICES FROM IA & NE AUCTIONS After 7 hours of waiting, towing, waiting & riding home I finally got back to the office tonight and was greeted by a pair of sale price reports from super farm auctions held Saturday (Feb. 6th).
