Both videos were from my weekend in Grand Rapids, Michigan at the 18th Annual Winter Convention of the IHC Collectors Club. A really fun weekend, met tons of nice folks, all BIG RED lovers. Saturday after dinner I got up and yakked a bit about the used farm equipment market and then gave my take on the current state of the collector market for older tractors. One point I touched on........how the word "antique" is sort of going by the wayside, folks now more referring to "collector" tractors. A part of this shift can be seen in the increased demand for and popularity of tractors from the mid 1960's up into the mid 1970's, so tractors like IHC 1206's and JD 6030's are becoming HOT items on the collector market now....and likely will become even hotter as we move forward. I've always enjoyed keeping tabs on the market for older tractors, whether you call them antiques or collector tractors....fun to see what they're selling for! Oh, those (2) new "Machinery Pete" videos I've got coming? One will have footage of a great auction last week in west-central Illinois, the other fresh video footage of a nice farm auction last Saturday (Feb. 27th) in west-central Ohio......so check back for these videos!! CANADA.......AUCTION PRICES HITTING OLYMPIAN HEIGHTS I sure had fun watching the Olympics the last couple weeks. Seems like they were on TV for a month. Good stuff though....that whole "human drama of athletic competition" thing. Anyone else out there love the old ABC-TV sports show "Wide World of Sports" back in the 1970's? I ate that stuff up. Olympics always make me think of Jim McKay and yellow blazers for the TV announcers. What else has been happening up in Canada of late?? Well, I'd say without a doubt CANADA is the HOTTEST region currently for used farm equipment values. Last week I pointed out the 1992 CaseIH 1660 combine with 1,259 engine hours sold for $72,000 (no heads!) on a farm auction in southwest Ontario (near Detroit) on Feb. 20th. Well, last Saturday (Feb. 27th) another eye opening auction price on a combine sold in this same southwest Ontario region....this time a JD 9550 combine with only 523 actual engine hours. It sold for $152,000. They've got $$ to spend up north and they're spending it....on good used combines. CLICK ON LINK BELOW FOR MORE OF PETE'S BLOG
